institute, secular
   This word (from the Latin instituere, meaning "to establish") refers to associations set up for a particular purpose. Secular institutes are ecclesiastically approved communities whose members commit themselves to observing theevangelical counsels but work in the world as witnesses to Christ. (See CCC 928-929)
